Salvia rosmarinus (Rosemary) Extract

Standardization
: 15% Rosmarinic Acid

Overview:

Rosemary, scientifically called Salvia rosmarinus, is an aromatic herb that is native to the Mediterranean region, recognizable by its needle-like leaves and distinctive woody fragrance. In the kitchen, rosemary is highly valued for its strong, pine-like aroma and pungent flavor, which pairs well with a wide variety of dishes, particularly meats like lamb, poultry, and pork. It’s also a staple in many Mediterranean dishes, used in everything from soups and sauces to breads and vegetable preparations. The leaves are often used both fresh and dried, though the fresh leaves generally provide a more subtle flavor.

Rosemary extract is derived from the leaves of the rosemary plant, it is widely used both as a culinary ingredient and natural health and functional products for its unique properties and potential health benefits1. One of the most valued properties of rosemary extract is its high content of antioxidants, such as carnosic acid, rosmarinic acid, and carnosol. These compounds can help protect the body’s cells from damage caused by free radicals, which can lead to chronic diseases and aging. Due to its antioxidant and antimicrobial properties, rosemary extract is also used as a natural preservative in food products. In 2010, the EU approved the use of rosemary extract as a safe and effective food preservative.

Hovane provides rosemary extract standardized to 15% rosmarinic acid.
